Buddy for voice memos
Send me a voice memo and say what you need from it. I’ll listen and send back something you can use, like a to-do list.
A volleyball coach in Sioux City, Iowa, parked in her driveway after talking through the week on the drive home.
Talk it out however it comes. Send me the memo and I’ll hand back the list, sorted, with anything that sounded unsure marked.
- Here’s my rambling grocery memo. Sort it by aisle.
- Here’s me thinking out loud about the weekend. What did I actually decide?
- Send me the list back as a voice note.
- You sent a voice memo: Okay so, things. The bus deposit for Omaha is due Friday, it’s three hundred I think. Two of the girls need new uniform sizes, Kenzie and Ava, um, a medium and a large. Remind the parents about the snack schedule. My car needs an oil change. Mom’s birthday is Sunday, I need a card. Oh, and I told Coach Diaz I’d send him the practice plan by Wednesday.
- You: turn that into a to-do list pls
- Buddy: Here it is, soonest first. Wednesday: practice plan to Coach Diaz. Friday: the Omaha bus deposit. Sunday: a card for your mom. No date: uniforms for Kenzie and Ava, a snack schedule note to parents, and an oil change.
- Buddy: You said “three hundred, I think” for the deposit, so I put $300 and marked it to double-check.
- You sent a voice memo: Oh, and call the gym about Saturday’s court time.
- Buddy: Added. That makes seven. Want a text Wednesday morning about the practice plan and Thursday morning about the deposit?
- You: yes both Buddy liked this.
- Buddy: Done. Go eat something.

From a voice memo to a list
Record it how it comes
Ramble, back up, add things at the end. Up to ten minutes per memo, and you can send a second one when you remember something.
Tell me what you need
A to-do list, the short version, a message to send, or what you decided. If a name or number matters, check it in what I send back.
Ask for the follow-up
Want a reminder for the things with a date? Say when, and I’ll text you then.
More you can ask for
- Here’s a voice memo from the drive. Turn it into a to-do list.
- Here’s the voicemail from my landlord. What does he need from me?
- Turn this memo into a message I can send the team parents.
- Remind me Wednesday morning about the practice plan.
- I talked through my toast for Saturday. Clean it up so I can read it.
- Make this memo into a one-page practice plan I can print.
What you get back
A list you can use
What you said you need to do, pulled out of the memo and sorted by when, with the dates you gave.
The unsure parts, marked
If you hedged on a number, or a name came through unclear, I say so instead of guessing.
Voice and recordingsReminders when there’s a date
Ask and I’ll text you before the things that are due.
Reminders and ongoing workA voice note back, if you’d rather listen
Ask for a voice reply. Send /voice by itself to make voice replies the default in that conversation.

Questions people ask
How long can a memo be?
Up to ten minutes each. Longer recordings aren’t transcribed automatically, so send the part that matters, or split it into a few memos.
What if he gets a name wrong?
Road noise, other voices, and unfamiliar names can throw off what Buddy hears. Tell him the right word and he’ll fix the list.
Can I just call Buddy?
No. Send a recorded memo, and ask for a voice note back if you want to listen. A recorded reply isn’t a live phone conversation.
Can I talk instead of type in the desktop app?
Yes. In the VXBE desktop app, Talk to Buddy turns what you say into a draft. Read it over, fix anything, and send it yourself.
