Buddy for good news

Tell me when you want it and what kind of good news you like. I’ll find one real thing on schedule and tell you where I found it.

A school bus mechanic in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on his Friday lunch break.

Pick a day and a time. I’ll look, send one good thing, and include the source so you can read the whole story.

  • Once a week, send me one good story about teachers or schools.
  • Every morning at 7, send me one good thing about animals or science.
  • Send me good news from Tennessee when there is some. Skip politics.

From one text to good news every week

  1. Pick the time and the kind

Tell me when you want it and what you’d like more of: animals, science, your town. Say what to skip, too.

  2. I look and send one

At your time, I search the public web, pick one good thing that really happened, and send it with where I found it.

  3. Change it whenever

Ask me for a different day, a different topic, a pause, or a stop, in the conversation where you set it up.

More you can ask for

  • Every Friday at noon, send me one good thing that happened this week.
  • Give me one good thing I can tell my third graders on Monday morning.
  • Move my good news to Sunday mornings with my coffee.
  • Tell me more about that otter story, with sources.
  • Send this week’s good thing as a voice message.
  • Pause the Friday good news until I’m back from vacation.

What you get back

  • One good thing, on time

A short note at the hour you picked, about the kind of news you asked for. You don’t need the desktop app open for it to arrive.

  • Where it came from

Each good thing comes with its source, so you can read the whole story. I don’t make the news up.

    Research with sources
  • Yours to change

A different day, a new topic, a pause, or a stop. Tell me in the same conversation.

    Reminders and ongoing work
Your Friday good thing

River otters are back on a creek they’d been gone from for decades

After years of volunteer cleanup, the creek has otters again. One good thing for this week, sent Friday at noon.

Where I found it: Otters return to a cleaned-up creek

Questions people ask

Where does the news come from?

Buddy searches the public web and includes the source with each good thing, so you can read the original. He can only share what he can find, so a quiet week may bring a smaller story.

Can I choose what counts as good news?

Yes. Tell Buddy what you want more of and what to skip, like politics, and he’ll use that for the weekly note. Ask him to change it any time.

How do I pause or stop it?

Tell Buddy in the conversation where you set it up, and he can pause it, change it, or remove future runs. In the VXBE desktop app, it’s also under Settings, then Scheduled work.

Do I have to keep anything open?

No. Scheduled work runs online, so the VXBE desktop app doesn’t need to be open, and you don’t need it at all to get the note by text.

One good thing a week is a fine place to start.
