Buddy for comparing quotes

Send me the quotes, however they came. I’ll line them up, tell you what’s actually different, and list what to ask before you pick.

A dad in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, adding a 16-year-old to the car insurance.

Send me every quote, even if they look nothing alike. I’ll match them line by line and tell you what to ask.

  • I got two quotes to replace our water heater. Why is one $900 more?
  • Here are two moving quotes. What’s in one and not the other?
  • Make a spreadsheet comparing these quotes, with the total price, what’s included, and the questions I still need to ask.
How Buddy reads files and makes spreadsheets
  1. Today 9:30 AM
  2. You sent a file: Three insurance quotes3 PDFs
  3. You: three quotes for adding jaylen to our car insurance. they’re all over the place. what’s actually different?
  4. Buddy: Got all three. Lining them up now.
  5. Buddy: The online one is cheapest, $1,412 for six months, because it covers less. If Jaylen hurts someone, it pays up to $25,000 per person. The other two pay up to $100,000.
  6. Buddy: Rhonda’s and the credit union’s match on coverage. Rhonda’s is $1,688 with a $1,000 deductible. The credit union’s is $1,745 with $500.
  7. You: so the credit union?
  8. Buddy: That’s your call. The extra $57 gets you a deductible $500 lower. Ask both two things first: is the good student discount already in, and is a rental car covered?
  9. Buddy: Here they are side by side, with those questions at the bottom.
  10. You: this is so much clearer than the pdfs Buddy loved this.

From three PDFs to one answer

  1. Send me every quote

PDFs, photos of paper quotes, or the emails they came in. Tell me what matters, like the deductible you can live with.

  2. I match them line by line

Price, coverage, deductibles, and the fine print that differs. If a quote leaves something out, I say so instead of guessing.

  3. You pick, with questions in hand

I list what to ask each company before you decide. Choosing and signing up is up to you.

More you can ask for

  • Compare these three car insurance quotes and tell me what’s actually different.
  • Here’s a voice memo of the quote the tree guy gave me on the phone. Add it to the others.
  • Put these four roofing quotes side by side, with what each warranty covers.
  • The fence quote expires Friday. Remind me Thursday morning to call them back.
  • Explain what a $1,000 deductible means for us, in plain words.
  • Draft an email to Rhonda asking whether the good student discount is in.

What you get back

  • What’s actually different

A short answer that leads with the differences that matter, not a recap of every line.

  • A side-by-side spreadsheet

Price, coverage, and deductibles in one Excel file, with your open questions at the bottom.

    Working with data
  • Questions to ask before you sign

What each quote leaves out or doesn’t say, written as questions you can put to the agent.

    Work with files
  • Sources when you want them

Ask me to look up what a coverage term means or what a company’s site lists, and I’ll send sources with the answer.

Questions people ask

Is Buddy telling me which policy to buy?

No. Buddy isn’t an insurance agent or a financial advisor. He reads the quotes, lines them up, and points out the differences and the questions worth asking. You choose.

What if the quotes use different terms?

Buddy matches them by what they cover, not what they call it, and tells you when a quote doesn’t say something instead of guessing.

Can he read a photo of a paper quote?

Yes, if it’s clear. If part of it is hard to read, he says which part and asks for a better photo.

Can he send my questions to the agent?

He can draft the email. Sending it to someone else needs a connected email account, or you can copy his draft and send it yourself.

Cheapest and best are different questions.
